On the Issues
Long understands that inflation comes from a variety of factors from increased retail prices, supply and demand, and monetary policy to help small businesses get through the pandemic. Recognizing the strain on Georgia families he voted to approve the suspension of the gas tax, gave raises to teachers and law enforcement, while also voting for an income tax cut that brought the rate down from 5.75 to 5.39%. The largest income tax cut in history. H.B. 304 and H.B.1015
Over 1/3 of homeless are veterans. For the homeless population the solution isn’t as simple as just placing a person in a hotel or apartment. Challenges stemming from drugs, addiction, mental health requires programs to help the transition to stable housing. I voted for H.B. 520 which would have expanded mental health and substance use reforms. Increasing housing supply would also make the transition from homeless to home a reality.
In working across the aisle I was appointed by the Speaker to the Technology and Infrastructure committee in the legislature as well as the Natural Resources and Infrastructure committee of NCSL.
During my first two years I signed on to legislation such as H.B. 71 to prevent mining in the Okefenokee Swamp. Making sure our farmers can continue to grow crops and having clean rivers and air to breathe continues to be a priority.
Aging Population: Georgia has a growing population that requires the support of family members. I understand the financial burden this places on families as I had to take care of my father before he passed. I will continue to advocate for a tax relief to individuals who provide caregiving support to seniors.
